Truebeck Construction announces the successful completion of BayHealth’s 18,443sf Ambulatory Surgery and Radiology/Oncology Center, a new state-of-the-art facility. BayHealth is a joint venture created to support the affiliation between UCSF Health and John Muir Health, focusing on the development of ambulatory care sites, clinical integration, and service line alignment. This $20 million project began in April 2023 and was completed in September 2024, marking a significant milestone for healthcare infrastructure in the East Bay.

The project involved the interior build-out of a previously vacant shell space on the ground floor of the Berkeley Outpatient Center. Truebeck led preconstruction efforts from schematic design through buyout, delivering a world-class, 11,884sf surgery center that includes three OSHPD-3 certified outpatient operating rooms, one procedure room, and sterile processing. The sterile processing rooms for the OR and endoscopy department were completed in partnership with BeliMed and feature sterilizers, decontamination areas, clean workspaces, sterile storage, and scopes storage.

The 6,559sf Radiology/Oncology Center will provide the Berkeley and East Bay community with top-of-the-line cancer-fighting technology. The facility boasts a new CT scanner and LINAC (linear accelerator). Truebeck built the LINAC vault to house a powerful laser capable of pinpointing radiation directly at cancer tumors. The shielding needed for this type of laser required four-foot-thick concrete walls, as well as reinforcing the floor’s weight-bearing capacity.

All work was completed within an active facility, adjacent to operational clinics, requiring careful coordination to minimize disruptions. The project also complies with the Green Halo program and California Energy Code, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.

Jessica Mills, Project Executive at Truebeck, commented, “We’re honored to have been able to build this meaningful project for BayHealth. It was a privilege to contribute to a facility that will have such a positive impact on patient care in the Berkeley community.”

Truebeck extends congratulations to our client, project team, and partners, including: BayHealth (Owner), Vertran Associates (Owner’s Representative), Boulder Associates (Architecture), Estructure (Structural Engineering), Sandis (Civil Engineering), Mazzetti & Associates Inc. (MEP Engineering), SWA Group (Landscape), Trapani and Associates (Linear Accelerator Vault Architect), and Salter (Acoustics).
