Alexandria Center for Life Science
San Carlos, CAThe Alexandria Center for Life Science is a 551,000sf, two-building flagship mega campus for research innovation and discovery. Purpose-built to support innovative life science companies in their critical efforts to recruit and retain world-class talent to advance their life-changing discoveries. In addition to completing the LEED Gold core/shell of the two six-story buildings and six-story, 517,600sf 1,510-stall parking structure, Truebeck delivered 413,000sf of lab space and tenant improvement projects for ChemoCentryx, Vaxcyte, Codexis, Nautilus, and Iovance. Since lab spaces for tenants were phased into the project, more than 300,000sf of the space was built after ChemoCentryx moved in. This required careful noise and vibration control during construction to mitigate impacts to the occupied tenants’ lab space.
The office and lab workspace includes biology and chemistry lab space, cold rooms, BSL2 labs, analytical labs, radioactive labs, an industrial bulk nitrogen gas storage tank, and a prefab chemical storage enclosure. The sophisticated design-build MEPF infrastructure delivers 100% outside air requirements for life science tenants, allowing complete positional flexibility to accommodate biotech lab space anywhere, on every floor. Designed with energy conservation in mind, the innovative exterior façade includes electro-chromatic exterior glass to mitigate solar heat gain and increases the overall energy performance of the campus.
