My parents are retired educators – They taught me the value of being a lifelong learner. It is something I have always embraced.
Work hard, be honest, be authentic – If I had a dollar for every time my mom said these words to me, I would probably be retired! Funny enough, these are the words I value most today.
You can do anything if you put your mind to it. I was inspired by my grandmothers and a great aunt who all had careers at a time when many women didn’t work. They taught me you can absolutely do anything. They paved a way for me, and I try to honor them in all that I do.
“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” In my line of work, you get to engage with team members who often have difficult personal situations. Sometimes, a person to talk to and a hug are good for the soul.
Culture is the way we do things around here – Each business has a culture, that makes it unique, harnessing that culture drives incredible outcomes.
Be authentic. It took me a long time to figure out what type of leader I wanted to be. I emulated leaders that I worked with because they were successful. When I went back to grad school, there was a lot being written on authenticity. Once I figured that out, my career changed for the better. I just needed to be me.
So, you work in construction? When I started in construction this was a question I was frequently asked. Today, I am proud to say, “Yes, I work in construction, I get to develop the people who build the communities we live and work in and that is pretty cool.”
Helping people achieve their goals makes me happy – I love to see people get promoted, finish a certification, complete a difficult project, or overcome a challenge. It feels good to know that you help people achieve their goals.
Change is the norm — The world in which we work is forever changing. Not too long ago I had to explain what a red line was. It dawned on me that this person had never marked up drawings the ‘old fashioned’ way with a red pencil! The technology being deployed in our industry continues to evolve and I look forward to being on the forefront with Truebeck.
Are you ready for some football? I enjoy the MNF football jingle. It reminds me the best season of the year is here! When my kids went away to college I became a college fan. Our weekends revolve around game times on Saturday and on Sunday…it’s all about the 49ers!
I love to cook. I enjoy the satisfaction of shopping for and creating a meal. There is nothing better than your table surrounded by family and friends. Last year at the Silicon Valley Pig Jig, I took first place in the wild card category with my version of a deconstructed pineapple upside down cake.
I am a second-generation Chico Alum. My family visited Chico all the time when I was a child. I got to spend a lot of time on campus, when my dad was finishing his master’s degree – he inspired me to complete mine. It always felt like home.
